Self Guided Cycling Holidays in Wales
Wales is one of the finest cycling destinations in Britain, and a self-guided cycling holiday is one of the best ways to experience it. Travelling at your own pace, on routes you can start any day of the year, you get all the freedom of an independent cycling trip with none of the logistical headaches. Drover Holidays takes care of the accommodation, the luggage, the maps, and the bike, leaving you free to simply ride.
What is Included in a Self Guided Cycling Holiday
Every self-guided cycling holiday with Drover Holidays includes bicycle hire from our well-maintained fleet of over 60 high-quality bikes, pre-booked B&B accommodation throughout, daily luggage transfers between stops, and a comprehensive route map and guide. If you would prefer to bring your own bike, we can adjust the package accordingly. All itineraries can be ridden on a top-of-the-range electric bike for those who want to cover more ground or take on the bigger climbs with a little extra assistance.
Our Self Guided Cycling Routes
Our cycling itineraries cover some of the most rewarding terrain in Wales and the Welsh Borders, from long-distance national routes to circular tours designed to bring you the best of a particular area.
Lon Las Cymru is the great Welsh cycling journey, crossing the country from Cardiff in the south to Holyhead in the north. Our itineraries cover the southern section through the Brecon Beacons and the full eight-day route for those who want to take on the whole thing. It is one of the classic cycling adventures in the whole of the UK.
The Taff Trail follows 55 miles of largely traffic-free path from Brecon through the former mining valleys to Cardiff Bay, combining accessible cycling with dramatic scenery and a fascinating industrial history.
The Radnor Ring is a circular tour through the quiet hill country of Powys and the Welsh Borders, taking in the market towns and ancient landscapes of mid Wales on roads that see very little traffic.
Offa’s Dyke by Bike follows sections of the ancient earthwork boundary between Wales and England through the border country between Knighton and Hay-on-Wye, with some of the finest lane cycling in the region.
Cycling in Wales for All Abilities
Wales has a reputation for big hills, and it is well-earned. But the range of terrain across our cycling itineraries means there is something suitable for riders of most abilities. The Taff Trail and the valley sections of Lon Las Cymru are well-suited to those new to cycling holidays or travelling with mixed-ability groups. The passes of the Brecon Beacons and the hill country of mid Wales offer more serious climbing for those who want a genuine physical challenge. And for anyone who wants the scenery without the struggle, our electric bike option opens up the full range of routes regardless of fitness level.
Why Choose Drover Holidays
We have been organising walking and cycling holidays in Wales for many years, and the Brecon Beacons and mid Wales are our home territory. We know these roads, lanes, and trails intimately, and that local knowledge is built into every route guide, accommodation recommendation, and itinerary we put together. Our approach has always been to treat every customer as an individual rather than fitting them into an off-the-shelf package, so if none of our existing itineraries quite fits what you have in mind, get in touch and we will do our best to tailor something around your requirements.
